Diamonds on bracelets, and time that erases
humble men and peaceful places,
positive trends and slow speech
If the air had no friction
would it slow down our diction?
Would our throats cease to function without all the tension
to throw more fuel on our provocation,
and ruin the jewel of slow speech
The slow to speak are quick to believe,
and the acid we leak won’t eat away the grief
When our batteries are dry, we’ll wish we had
died a little slower.
Wise, though young—
a coal placed on the tongue.
Does it destroy eloquence or purge all the sins
and follies of youth, acted or spoken,
voicing the truth with slow speech? and we’ll wish we had
died a little slower.
